Hello internet!
This week we’re checking out the epic guitar solo on Talk To Your Daughter by Robben Ford. If you’ve not heard it, check it out here: https://youtu.be/vM0CWfVZczY. This solo is great in terms of both phrasing and tone. If you don’t know what this is all about, check out this post to see why I’m doing a transcription every week this year. There’s some great use of standard blues licks, and the mixture of major/minor pentatonic is awesome. There’s a few tricky position shifts to watch out for, so keep an eye out for these! Particularly at bars 10/11.
Let’s take a quick break
Just a tiny stop off halfway to point out the ambiguous slides to and from nowhere. I’ve notated these as x’s with a slide out up of down depending on which direction the slide needs to go. These don’t seem to have a base pitch, but I’ve tried to get the approximate starting pitch in there where I can.
My favourite lick in this solo is from bar 33 to the end. Not sure why, but I love it! It just seems the perfect way to end a nice 12-bar.
